Name That Painting...

"?????" (24 x 36)

Every now and then I get writer's block when it comes to naming a painting, so I thought I'd throw my dilemma out there and see if anyone who actually looks at this blog (sorry I haven't posted in several weeks) might be so kind as to suggest some titles...

If you're interested, I'll give you a jumping off point by clarifying that this painting is not attempting to depict a scene from Swan Lake -- however I did get the inspiration from that famous ballet. In most productions of Swan Lake, the dancers wear a feathered head dress -- mine is a rose garland, and hopefully you can recognize the birds are not swans, but indeed doves...

'Freedom' or being set free was where I was going with the general theme, but just can't seem to pen an appropriate title with a lyrical, poetic sound to it...

Anything come to mind? Feel free to explore the spiritual metaphors as well with the dove(s) -- I'd sure appreciate your input...

Thank you guys!

  1. Eric,
I think I arrived at the right time ...

this painting is spectacular, the scene is literally, a spectacle; and treatment you gave is awesome, the angle is very good, almost leaves us with the dancer!
What about a title, I felt I could be
"The lightness of the concentration "

    Greetings!

  4. what about "give peace a chance"-just a reflection on the current crazy world we live in and your gorgeous painting and it really is gorgeous. Sorry, all I can see is Natalie Portman-that disturbing movie is still fresh in my mind.

  5. Eric this is one of my favorites of yours.

how about "the free in thee"

    Freedom by George William Russell
I WILL not follow you, my bird,
    I will not follow you.
I would not breathe a word, my bird,
    To bring thee here anew.

I love the free in thee, my bird,
    The lure of freedom drew;
The light you fly toward, my bird,
    I fly with thee unto.

And there we yet will meet, my bird,
Though far I go from you
Where in the light outpoured, my bird,
    Are love and freedom too.

  6. OOOoooh, simply beautiful!

Maybe these ideas will strike a chord or provoke a better title within you....

    Flying with Grace?
    When Grace takes Flight?
    Freedom to Fly
    Lifting Higher
Commanding the Landing, or Landing Command?

Still OOOoooing over this one, Eric!

  7. I'm the worst at choosing title. The guys above me have some really creative thoughts. So why the heck am I writing this? Just to let you know that is one of the most beautiful paintings I've ever seen.

  9. How about Freedom's metamorphosis...or some other similar word play. She seems as though she's about to transform.

  12. how about: "The unity of freedom", as the bird and the dancer are expressing their freedom of movement, one in the air...and rooted to the ground...both free to express their individual abilities in that freedom.

  13. Thanks everyone for your suggestions -- there were some real good ones and many more not posted here that came straight to my email. I'm still going thru the selection process, but have narrowed it down to 3 or 4. I should have done this a long time ago! Thanks again!
