The painting above (Luckless Hunter) was difficult to photograph due to it's dark palette, so it appears a little darker here than in real life~

The Bluff Show at Maxwell Alexander Gallery

 

"Cliffs Like Indian Blankets" (8x10 o/l) SOLD

 

Maxwell Alexander Gallery in Los Angeles will host the "Artist Retreat, Bluff Utah"show -- a collection of paintings by gallery artists that were done on location and in the studio from a group trip to Bluff Utah last October. About 15 gallery artists spent several days exploring and painting in southeastern Utah. Later, larger studio pieces were created from this trip as well and will be on display at Maxwell Alexander, opening March 12, 2022.

 

      "Crescent Moon" (24x24 o/p) SOLD

The landscape in and around Bluff was spectacular with varying cliff and rock formations, groves of cottonwood trees and great camaraderie among all of the artists -- special thanks to Maxwell Alexander Gallery for sponsoring such a wonderful and rewarding trip!

Prix de West 2021

 

Express Ranches Great American Cowboy award~

Just returned from the Prix de West exhibition and sale at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City...what a HUGE and beautiful museum! I was surprised to receive the Great American Cowboy Award for the painting above, "Overlook"...

I met a number of artists I have long admired and everyone at the show (including the tireless staff) were so kind and helpful -- the entire experience was non-stop fun and a truly spectacular event!

Prix de West 2020

I am thrilled to be invited to this years Prix de West as a Guest Artist at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City! Although the Covid scare has cancelled the artists reception, the exhibition will still hang in the museum from August 1st thru September 13th...

The sale of works (including these two) will be a proxy-bid-only virtual sale on September 12th. Bids for the fixed-price sale will be accepted as soon as the exhibition opens August 1st until the night of the sale September 12th, when the typical in-person sale will be replaced with an exciting virtual experience...

Valley of the Shadow

 Study (acrylic 5x5)

"Valley of the Shadow" is an allegorical picture of the struggles and trials we each face in life. The rider here, gently coaxing his horse uphill in a rocky terrain beneath a stormy background. The design of this painting (and many of late) is heavily influenced by several of the Taos painters from roughly a hundred years ago... What I appreciate about their work is the liberty they took exaggerating design and emphasizing colour while remaining in the representational arena.

Valley of the Shadow oil (30x30) SOLD

Here I have designed the storm clouds with a southwestern cultural feel to it's shape and rendering. Ideas for this composition came from my sketchbook and recent trips to the Arizona and California deserts.  This painting (along with 3 others) will be featured in the Autry Museum's "Masters of the American West" show and sale opening in Los Angeles, February 8th, 2020~

Show at Medicine Man Gallery, Tucson~

"Lost" (16x20) o/l SOLD

Medicine Man Gallery in Tucson, AZ is hosting a group show surrounding the release of Mark Sublette's new book; "Maynard Dixon’s American West: Along the Distant Mesa".

This volume is an homage to Maynard Dixon through the eyes of  artists working today. Works by 40 nationally and internationally recognized artists influenced by Dixon will be exhibited March 7 through April 30th, 2019.  

This show is very unique as the contemporary artwork will be hung next to Maynard Dixon original drawings, illustrations and oil paintings, 40 Dixon's will also be for sale. “Maynard Dixon’s American West: Along the Distant Mesa” the show’s accompanying hardback book, is now available for purchase thru the gallery.
